The birth of three capybaras at Edinburgh Zoo has brought joy to visitors, but it's clear that not everyone is happy about the new additions.
I'm thrilled by the news of Edinburgh Zoo's new capybara triplets. The zoo has announced the birth of three capybaras amidst some family drama involving the father and the mother’s sister.
The Family Drama
Luna, the mother, and her sister Cali have been causing some tension in the family. According to Darren McGarry, head of animal care at Edinburgh Zoo, "Cali rules the roost, and Luna does as she is told." Meanwhile, Bru, the first capybara born in Scotland in 18 years, is adjusting to no longer being the centre of attention.
The Triplets' First Few Weeks
The new arrivals are said to be doing well and sticking close to their mum for now. Keepers will perform a health check in a few weeks, at which time the genders will be confirmed and names chosen. Capybaras can breed several times a year, with Luna and Rodney having welcomed a baby boy, Bru, in May.
Capybara Family Dynamics
According to Mr McGarry, "Capy's might look cute and innocent but honestly, their lives are like something from a soap opera." Bru is less than impressed with the new arrivals and no longer being the centre of attention. However, it seems that he will eventually warm up to his siblings.
Capybara Family Drama Unfolds at Edinburgh Zoo
As the family continues to adjust to their new dynamics, it will be interesting to see how things play out. The triplets are adorable, exploring their new home while staying close to mum and taking in the world around them.
